The Accountancy team comprises of 4 dedicated units that are assigned to directorates across the council that consist of a Senior Finance Business Advisor, Finance Business Advisors and finance graduate trainees. The team works hand in hand with the Financial Consultancy function to provide a joined up and seamless approach to our customers across a wide range of areas.
These teams provide financial support and insight and challenge to budget holders across the council to enable them to effectively to manage their budgets, make financial and strategic decisions, and develop, drive forward and deliver change projects.
The teams provide support to senior management on revenue and capital budget management, developing their annual budgets and three year Medium Term Financial Plan, including supporting financial modelling for savings proposals and change projects.
In 2016/17 the Accountancy team:
- Successfully developed and delivered closing and budget monitoring training to over 140 budget managers for both modules. The feedback received was very positive and 77% of attendees agreed/strongly agreed that their budget monitoring knowledge has improved as a result.
- Introduced new processes including monthly subjective and objective spend to date which has increased visibility of spend and promoted accurate budget forecasting.
